Dr. Jimil Ataman (she/her) is the Assistant Professor of Sustainable Innovation in the Global Fashion Industry in the Department of Human Ecology at the University of Alberta (Canada). In 2024, she completed her PhD in Cultural Anthropology and Education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also earned graduate certificates from the Annenberg School of Communication and the Center for Experimental Ethnography. Jimil is an anthropologist of slow and sustainable fashion, a feminist scholar, and an experimental ethnographer. Her research program examines sustainable fashion production and consumption as an innovative fashion system, a digital economy, and a consumer movement.
